I tried to cancel an article today. I was prompted for a password. I
had no idea what it was. I looked in my custom.el file and found

 '(canlock-password "some long string" t)

I pasted that in and it seemed to work. Is this the right way to do
this?

It's not wrong, but the right way would be to put that setting
somewhere where it will be loaded so you don't have to type it in.
Apparently that part of your custom.el is not being loaded, or
something is overriding it later.

I'm pretty sure that it is being loaded as I can C-h v
canlock-password and see that long string. Is it intended that if
that variable is non-nil then I shouldn't be prompted for a password?

I just tried in alt.test. I am prompted for a password even though
the variable is set.
