Dear Gnusers,
Could someone please explain the logic exercised by Gnus to decide
which transfer encoding to use on outgoing messages?
I'm trying to make my Gnus *not* use QP by default. Since there's not
much documentation about it, I've been Reading the Source[tm]; so far
I've come up with two seemingly relevant variables:
mm-body-charset-encoding-alist and
mm-content-transfer-encoding-defaults.
Setting mm-body-charset-encoding-alist to '((iso-8859-1 . 8bit)) seems
to DWIM, but prepending a '("text/plain" 8bit) to
mm-content-transfer-encoding doesn't appear to have any effect at all.
What's the recommended practice?
TIA,
/Daniel

The latter variable doesn't seem to exist...

Yes, that was a typo; I actually meant mm-content-transfer-encoding-defaults.

Right. I think the former variable is the one to fiddle with,
though.
