WIBNI the MFT generation code could be extended to delete the Gcc
header, if the message goes to self anyway?

I find that I set the gcc-self parameter such that I will get a Gcc
header if I do R in a group. But usually, I want to delete that Gcc
header when I do F in the same group, since then I'll get a copy of
the message anyway, and having two copies makes no sense.

kai (deletes gcc before sending)

But what if I Gcc a different group?

Sam

Right. Then the header should not be deleted.

But remember that I wanted a user option, turned off by default. So
you don't need to be afraid that Gnus will begin to eat your Gcc
headers behind your back!

I think some list software tries to optimize so it doesn't send copies
of a message back to the sender.

So it should be yet another option...

Yes. TEI mailinglists are driven by such software:

Received: from LISTSERV.BROWN.EDU by LISTSERV.BROWN.EDU (LISTSERV-TCP/IP
release 1.8d) with spool id 182591 for TEI-L@LISTSERV.BROWN.EDU; Thu,
          18 Oct 2001 09:09:15 -0400
Received: from mailout05.sul.t-online.de (mailout05.sul.t-online.com
          [194.25.134.82]) by listserv.brown.edu (8.9.3+Sun/8.9.3) with ESMTP
          id DAA11374 for <TEI-L@listserv.brown.edu>; Thu, 18 Oct 2001 03:52:43
          -0400 (EDT)

The feature is configurable by mailinglist members.

Yes. Please, _don't_ change the default.
