Has anything happened to the gnus deamon lately? I've had
(gnus-demon-add-handler 'gnus-group-expire-all-groups 120 30)
(gnus-demon-add-scanmail)
in my .gnus.el for quite some time now (several months), but
the last couple of weeks it has not been working properly. I
*think* the deamon runs once, but never again.
I realise this is a somewhat terse problem description; is
there anything I can do to shed more light on the problem?

Could this be agent related? If you disable gnus-agent, does it start
to work again? (Assuming, of course, that you didn't used to set
gnus-agent to t before it became the default.)

This sounds very likely. I disabled the agent a couple of
days ago, because I got some weird behaviour I was unhappy
with, and since then the deamon has been much healthier.
