I have been observing this problem and had collected data similar to what Kai
had found out couple weeks ago. gnus-agent-article-alist contains correct
download states about articles while somehow gnus-newsgroup-undownloaded has
inconsistent information when summary buffer is generated.
I boiled down to gnus-agent-get-undownloaded-list() where gnus-sum will call
to get gnus-newsgroup-undownloaded generated but didn't have time to finish
debugging into it.
