Old Gnusae only use search-backward to find the msg id, which is
enclosed in angle brackets <...>. Since group names and server names
don't contain angle brackets, these versions are safe.
Current Gnusae use the group name, so this is indeed a problem. Hm.
I'm not sure what to do about this. Is there any sanity check in the
current code which we could abuse for backward compatibility?
