UTF-8

UTF-8

[Jørgen Wahlberg]

I recently got a mail which was sent by Microsoft Outlook Express
using the charset UTF-8.  This was not decoded by my Gnus, so for
instance an "å" was presented as "Ã¥".

Isn't Gnus supposed to decode UTF-8?  Or is something wrong with my
Emacs or Gnus?

No, you have to install Mule-UCS by someone named Otfried or
Ottfried.  Dunno where to get it, though, it seems I forgot to
bookmark it :-(

Mule-UCS 0.72 (RYOANJI) release.

Required platform:
  Emacs 20.4 or later
        (please apply ccl.c bug fix patch included in README)
  Meadow 1.12 Beta 1 or later

I have heard rumors that this will be included in Emacs 21, but I
can't say anything authoritative.
