Okay... just as a general FYI there should be an MX and a CNAME record for
lodge.ton.tut.fi in (ton).tut.fi's nameservers pointing at
a41a.otanner.ton.tut.fi.

This is probably not a Gnus issue.  I would guess the MTA on a41a is
rewriting headers for canonicity; that is, all outgoing headers are
rewritten with the canonical name of the host.  If it is sendmail there are
several ways of dealing with that, such as turning canonifying off or using
the masquerading options.
