i'm seeing some archive group wierdness. all of the variables have
been at their defaults. how's this stuff supposed to work? prior to
0.39, i think archive stuff was going into Mail/misc-* files. some
Mail/archive/misc-* files were created when i first upgraded from 5.1
to sgnus 0.30 last month, but they weren't actually used more than
once or something. i never did figure that one out, but things seemed
to stabilize after a day or two. now they've changed again. the last
few things i've sent have gone into Mail/archive/misc-* files. so
what the heck is going on? how are these supposed to work?

ls -AlR Mail
total 96
-rw-rw-r-- 1 gregt dsgrp 82 Feb 20 09:48 active
drwxrwxr-x 2 gregt dsgrp 512 Feb 20 10:03 archive/
-rw-rw-r-- 1 gregt dsgrp 31241 Feb 16 13:19 misc-mail
-rw-rw-r-- 1 gregt dsgrp 14741 Feb 14 11:55 misc-news
Mail/archive:
total 16
-rw-rw-r-- 1 gregt dsgrp 32 Feb 20 09:57 active
-rw-rw-r-- 1 gregt dsgrp 2221 Feb 20 09:49 misc-mail
-rw-rw-r-- 1 gregt dsgrp 3149 Feb 20 09:57 misc-news

here's the Mail/active file:
misc-mail 13 1 y
archive.misc-news 0 1 y
archive.misc-mail 0 1 y
misc-news 19 1 y

and the Mail/archive/active file:
misc-mail 2 2 y
misc-news 3 1 y

The archive group should now work as advertised -- the archive folders
are placed in "~/Mail/archive/". If you had any old archive groups,
you should kill them and let Gnus re-create the new (proper) ones.
They now have names like "nnfolder+archive:misc-mail" (etc) to use
separate name spaces from normal nnfolder groups.

I started sending news and mail before I realized this was happening. As a
result, I have misc-mail and misc-news folders in both ~/Mail/ and
~/Mail/archive/. So, I figure I should be able to simply move the articles
from the one archive into the other:
	Enter nnfolder:misc-mail
	Mark all articles with #
	B m to nnfolder+archive:misc-mail

However, this ends up stuffing the articles right back into Mail/misc-mail,
rather than into Mail/archive/misc-mail. It sounds like something is
broken to me.

I would like to say, however, that this (sgnus 0.39) is the first time that
I recall actually seeing messages show up in the archive groups, whether
they are in the old ones or the new ones. I was relieved to find an old
letter I sent which had some stunning prose.

The old archive groups are broken. You should just kill them off and
try to forget they have ever existed.

Read them with nndoc and move them over to the archive server.
