I think there's something amiss with the emacs.ding news->mail gateway. I've
been noticing this for a while, but I finally figured it out today. Whenever
someone posts to emacs.ding, I end up receiving two copies of the same
message via the mailing list. Anyone else seeing this? Can anyone fix it?
It's kind of annoying unless you have Gnus or procmail filtering out
duplicated Message-IDs.

Later,
Ed

Are you sure it isn't caused by people writing

	Newsgroups: emacs.ding
	To: ding@ifi.uio.no

?

These will become duplicates. I have posted this to `emacs.ding' with
no `To' header. Do you get it twice?

Looks like the messages do get duplicated. I'll inform the sunsite
admin.

That's what I thought, too, but I believe the emacs.ding news->mail gateway
is putting in the `To:' header and not the people doing the posting. I
confirmed that via a private e-mail with someone who posted a message in that
manner just today. And now you've doubly confirmed it.

Yes, I did. By the way, I am in no way subscribed to emacs.ding. I only
get messages via the mailing list.

Also, I've noticed that emacs.ding is gatewayed to ding@ifi.uio.no instead of
the new ding@gnus.org. Someone should fix that too, since I presume
eventually ding@ifi.uio.no is going to disappear.

Anyone know who to contact?

Later,
Ed

You are right! Our newsserver is double-posting all moderated
postings, which is a bug in Dnews. I will look into this ASAP!

I guess that will be me :-) It's fixed now!

I had a problem like this with inn. It was adding the moderator address
to the article and then invoking `sendmail -t' on it. sendmail would
then send it both to the moderator and also to whomever was listed in the
existing To: and Cc: headers. The To: and Cc: addresses would get two
copies because the posting agent had already sent them one. Solution:
Don't use `sendmail -t' to send articles to the moderation address, pass
the header recipient on the command line.

You are right! The default for dnews is to invoke sendmail with
"-t". It is now changed, and as far as I can test, it did solve the
problem. Thanks and sorry again for the annoyance you have all had
with this!
