simply Group-->Subscribe and type it in

hit 'g' and away you go

When I use Gnus to subscribe to a newsgroup on a server, it first
downloads the entire list.  If I know the names of the newsgroups
being carried on the server, is it possible to just subscribe to them
without downloading the entire NG list off the server?
