Thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn't help: Setting the level to 6
(which is gnus-activate-level) doesn't make any difference: the groups
are still scanned on startup.

Setting the level to 9 kills the groups, but they are resurrected when
I start Gnus a second time.

Yes, I know the problem about having enough time... :-)

But still: thanks for taking the time to write the nnmaildir backend
in the first place!

That sounds interesting and a bit complicated to setup.
Now I use a nnml backend, I have never used IMAP before.

Could you explain the necessary steps in detail?
It would be nice, if you could send me your devecot configuration
file.

Thanks for your help,
  Stefan.

A webmail interface can be convenient if you only have two minutes
left to check your email and the only computer around is someones
win-pc without putty.

An IMAP server can be nice if you have a mobile phone which is able to
speak IMAP (no, I don't have one unfortunately) -- unless of course
someone has made an ssh client for a mobile phone ;-)

Kind regards,
