Does `G E' print something different for the failing group and some
other succeeding group? (Except for the message numbers, of course.)

Thanks. I'll give it a try tonight. I tried just replacing the
second two numbers, so it was

       ((1.12263
        (12264 . 12265))

but that did nothing, and when I checked again, the numbers had been
set back.

Isn't gnus-groups-clear-data supposed to take care of this?

Thanks,

I think it is supposed to do that. Hm.

I may have had some articles cached at one time, but I thought they
got cleared when I reset all groups after ATTBI did its server
change. I'm not sure what an Agent hierarchy is or how I would have
one.

Thanks.

If your server is one that uses authinfo, you might try the following:
Put the following in you .emacs

(setq nntp-server-list-active-group nil)

I was having similar problems to you, and only that fixed it (this was
on giganews). In particular, adding force yes to the right line of
the authinfo file didn't fix it.

Hmmm. What should I have done?

As far as I know, I've never used the Agent. Yet there's a directory
hierarchy here:

          ~/News/agent/nntp/netnews.attbi.com/agent.lib/active
                                                       /history
                                              comp/...
                                              gnu/...
                                              rec/...

etc.

Thanks,
