Dear all,

It seems one cannot partially cite a message when doing very wide
reply. Is this a missing feature or a bug?

Thanks,

A few days ago, when gmane's MTA was down, all articles sent using 'F'
(follow-up) would fail and I just missed this feature very much.

Now I feel it is an important feature that does its work none of the
rest can replace easily.

What I mean by `partially citation' is that when replying instead of
yanking the whole article, only yanking the text in the active region.

And it will make "S W" and "S V" have consistent behavior as "F" and
"R".

Comments?

Note that 'F' also says ...with-original, however it can yank only the
text in active region.

,----
| F runs the command gnus-summary-followup-with-original
| which is an interactive compiled Lisp function in `gnus-msg.el'.
| It is bound to F, S F, <menu-bar> <Post> <Followup and yank>.
| (gnus-summary-followup-with-original N &optional FORCE-NEWS)
|
| Compose a followup to an article and include the original article.
| The text in the region will be yanked. If the region isn't
| active, the entire article will be yanked.

I'm not sure what you mean by "partial citation", but do these help?

,----(info "(gnus)Summary Mail Commands")
| `S W'
| Mail a wide reply to the current article and include the original
| message (`gnus-summary-wide-reply-with-original'). This command
| uses the process/prefix convention.

,----(info "(gnus)Summary Mail Commands")
| `S V'
| Mail a very wide reply to the author of the current article and
| include the original message
| (`gnus-summary-very-wide-reply-with-original'). This command uses
| the process/prefix convention.

I use this feature sometimes. However it is easier if we can reply to a
certain text when we are reading it. Because after yanking the whole
message into the mail buffer, it takes time to get to the right place.

I found 'R' and 'F' honor partial citation but not 'S v' or 'S w'.

Hi Leo,

I usually cite then ellide the uninteresting parts by marking the block
then C-c C-e.

I use supercite (not sure if the stock Gnus citation works the same), I
can yank the text from the article, as one would copy a block of text
between buffers then C-c C-p c -> sc-cite-region. However since I
tipically cite everything then ellide, someone may have some better method.
