How soon will this dependency land in freecad? Will it be possible to simply disable that workbench in the build?
v8 is a large package and was removed from void two years ago. I'm not sure anyone's willing to maintain it.

@karl-nilsson There is no immediate rush. The code hasn't landed yet: https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/pull/6637
It's experimental but we hope more people will be testing it in v0.20 once it's released (~1 month) if it makes it in to the release. If not then in v0.21dev
