New issue by Firgen on void-packages repository
https://github.com/void-linux/void-packages/issues/39176
Description:
### Is this a new report?
Yes
### System Info
Void 5.18.19_1 x86_64 GenuineIntel uptodate rFFFF
### Package(s) Affected
polkit-0.120_1
### Does a report exist for this bug with the project's home (upstream) and/or another distro?
_No response_
### Expected behaviour
The `polkitd` user should be the owner of `/usr/share/polkit-1/rules.d/` and `/etc/polkit-1/rules.d/`.
### Actual behaviour
The owner of those folders was `root` and I had to manually change it.
### Steps to reproduce
use polkitd

This seems wrong, polkit should be able to read those files.

Edit: never mind, it does own them and this is already setup in the template.
There sounds like your polkit packages INSTALL script did not run for some reason.

A similar thing just happened to me. `/var/lib/sddm` and its subolders aren't owned by sddm but should be and it's also in the install script. I don't know if it's been like this or just suddenly changed but I suddenly started getting and error.
Force reinstalling fixed the base folder, but not it's subfolders and files.

Comment:
It is in the install script, it creates the `/var/lib/sddm` folder with the right user. For some reason this didn't happen on your system, not sure by who files in this folder should be owned by, but if its different than it should be then its related to sddm itself and not xbps since it doesn't create any files there.
Can't really tell what happened after the fact, if the INSTALL script was ever run since you force reinstalled it already, so the package state prior to that is lost.

`xbps-query -p state polkit` output would be interesting, `xbps-reconfigure -f polkit` or `xbps-reconfigure -f sddm` should have fixed it.

`xbps-query -p state polkit` only outputs `installed`.
