I've been trying the scanner driver although it's not working properly with xsane.
But the real reason for this issue is the lack of support for this series model.

I tried and it didn't solve it, other groups were even added like lpadmin and it didn't solve it.

I suspect that package you want is the `brother-brscan4-0.4.9_1` present in void's `nonfree` repo. You may want to take a look at it.

I used that package and then made a custom void_package with the latest version (0.4.11) and just managed to use the scanner as root user. Explained earlier!

Yet, you could consider to open a PR in void-packages to update the `brother-brscan4` package with your template.

Ho, sorry. Have you tried `gutenprint` or `foomatic-db` packages? They offer support to a lot of printers.
