New issue by zeylos on void-packages repository
https://github.com/void-linux/void-packages/issues/49394
Description:
### Is this a new report?
Yes
### System Info
Void 6.6.22_1 x86_64 GenuineIntel uptodate rFFF
### Package(s) Affected
zfsbootmenu-2.3.0_2
### Does a report exist for this bug with the project's home (upstream) and/or another distro?
_No response_
### Expected behaviour
Normal boot
### Actual behaviour
Boot loop before accessing zfsbootmenu
### Steps to reproduce
The bug has been introduced by e0f5570b0fbfe850454a5733c337f1de663f0b2f.
I worked around by booting on the backed up EFI file from december.
I'd be happy to help debugging but I don't really know where to start :-).
Thanks !

This is not a Void issue, or even a ZFSBootMenu issue. It's a problem introduced in recent Linux kernel revisions for specific subsets of hardware.

My bad, I saw this one but it looked unrelated when I quickly went through it. I'll follow the issue over there, thanks for clarification and quick answer !

I could be entirely wrong, but it seems like the problem you're facing must be a variation of that issue. We can work through the issue and determine what's happening!

Reading the discussion, it indeed looks like a variation of this issue, although in my case I'm using the void package (I guess the patches are an equivalent of custom generated zbm images ?) and the system loops on the dell logo before even writing anything on the screen so I have no idea how to debug this to be honest. I'm still booting fine on the december EFI build so it looks like the same thing. I'm still available on IRC or anything if you need a test case !

Comment:
using the void package is custom generating it, the zbm image is built by `generate-zbm` when the package is configured

Until we can figure out exactly what kernel commit caused this problem and can work out a solution, I recommend you build custom ZBM images with `linux5.15`. See [this comment](https://github.com/zbm-dev/zfsbootmenu/discussions/598#discussioncomment-8815521) for more information.
