You can use xlocate from xtools:
$ xlocate /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so | grep devel
> gtk+-devel /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so ->
> /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.2400.28
