I don't really know what that means, but I'd guess that your curses
library is broken.

At any rate, the problem isn't with zsh; it compiles fine on Debian
ia64:

This is ncurses 5.2. But
_ there was no problem with zsh + ncurses 5.2 on other architectures.
_ the ncurses 5.2 test programs work fine on the IA64 machine.
