output from the new aux/vga -p (you should be able to do this on
an old system) with the vgadb entry set to

ctlr
	vid=0x10DE did=* # NVidia cards all talk the same
	link=vga
	ctlr=nvidia linear=1
	hwgc=nvidiahwgc

would be helpful.

thanks.

nvidia problems and the new release email jmk exactly what your systems say
and
he'll deal with it.  Thanks.

OK, here goes what I got.
Even with unmodified VGADB (full nvidia listing), aux/vga tries to use
the first pci device available (DID 01E0) which, on the main board
with nvidia2 chipset, happens to be the hostbridge. Not to good as vga
device I'd guess... Somehow it seems the search sees the first nvidia
VID, grabs the corresponding DID (01E0), concludes correctly that is
unuseable and quits.
Correlating to that is the message:
pcirouting: Southbridge 10DE/01E0 not found
and then later ignoring that.
The same DID as the TNT2...
If I missed any details, I'm happy to try again.

Martin

same _assumed_ DID (01E0).
The matching (first) VID (10DE) seems to trip hunt for a vga card.

if i send you a bundle of aux/vga source, can you compile it and
try the test again?

Seen this before with an S3 video card. The system that it was
installed in also had an S3 sound card (unsupported by plan 9, but in
the machine for use by Windows.) Plan 9 confused the sound card with an
S3 video card. I posted a fix and the good folks at the Labs put it in
the distribution. If you look in the S3 driver code it should be
obvious what to do.

yes, that was my conclusion too and i've sent him a patched
aux/vga to try.

in the pci listing he gave, all but the 3com ethernet have an
nvidia vid. i didn't know nvidia made anything other than graphics
chips.

Sorry, butmy Plan 9 system is not connected to the Internet. It would be
good if there were means for accessing sources.plan9.bell-labs.com other
than the Plan9 protocol. For example, being able to browse individual
source files through a web server would be great.

I would have to download the sources snapshot and burn a CD. But now
I don't have time for it.
