Do you have a secondary master? If not, make the
CDROM the secondary master. I suspect that we're
not detecting secondary slaves without masters.

It might the same problem that existed in r3: when a cdrom is the
secondary master and a zip in a slave, they don't respond to IDE
identify within the standard's time window. As a result, plan9 does
not see either of them. Increasing the timeout before the driver
decides that there is nothing on an IDE bus helped in r3. BTW, I see
the same behavior with 4e on the machine which initially had problems
with r3. Another symptom is that the sdC0 light does not go off at
all. (Not that I pretend to understand why, bu increasing the timeout
fixed that too.)

Sorry for my stupid question, but how do set up the timeout during
the install procedure.

You have to rebuild the kernel.

Hello everybody,

I tried to install 4ed on an AMD K5 System from CDROM.
It seems that Plan 9 does not detect my CD Drive and is
therefore unable to mount the CD. My harddisk is the
primary ide master and the CD drive is the secondary slave.
I would like to mount/detect the CD Drive manually but it
seems impossible to escape the install program for a
better shell :-)
Suggestions are welcome.

thnx,
