Someone had any lucky with these VMs? Parallels simply crash at Bell's
p9, with 9atom it freezes displaying this message, "igbe: unusable
PciCLS: 0, using 8 longs". Q installs it perfectly, but network
doesn't work.

Looks like I'll keep my dirty and old proliant a little longer.

Parallels stopped working reliably with release 4, and completely with
release 5. And for a lot more than just Plan 9. VMware Fusion works
fine.

On parallels 6 I can get 9atom a step further by changing the emulated
network adapter.

Manually edited the "config.pvs" file for the guest VM and changed the
entries for the adapter type:

     <NetworkAdapter AdapterType_patch="1" id="0"
dyn_lists="NetAddress DnsIPAddress SearchDomain">
         <EmulatedType>3</EmulatedType>
           :
         <VirtualNetworkID></VirtualNetworkID>
         <AdapterType>3</AdapterType>
         :
      </NetworkAdapter>

ether#0: NE2000: port 0x8200 irq 7 addr 0x4000 size 0x4000: 001c42e28625
 :

#l0: NE2000: 10Mbps port 0x8200 irq 7 tu 1514 addr 0x4000 size 0x4000: 001c...
 :
9atom then hangs a little further along, I didn't try too many other
options, just a quick look during my lunch break.

And virtualbox 4.1.0 has worked for me (with 9atom).

Networking in Q doesn't work on OSX because qemu needs a TUN/TAP bridge to get off the host. OSX doesn't come with the tools to set it up as far as I can tell — some searching I did a while back made it seem like older versions of OSX may have had the appropriate programs, but nothing I could find described getting qemu working on 10.5 or up. I found this http://tuntaposx.sourceforge.net/ , but was already too frustrated to put the effort into getting it to work with qemu.

I have vague memories of the software networking working under Q. Such
memories may be delusional but I don't see why it wouldn't. You might
have a bit of trouble running a server with the software stack due the
port<1024 thing. I ran a cpu server in qemu under Linux after I patched
Linux to allow user programs to use low ports, (Trivial patch,) or
there is a simple iptables workaround. (There's an iptables script in
mycroftiv's bundles.) There is a way of doing such port-mapping in OS X
but I never got around to it so couldn't tell you how. It might even be
a port of pf but you have to install some user-space tools which don't
ship with the system.

any way to get a dump of the registers out of parallels?
