i've never found kfs to be particularly reliable when compared
to other file systems. quite the opposite, actualy. my first
hand experience with fossil is more limited (i've not converted
my file server from ken's to fossil
away), but so far i'm much more pleased with it than kfs.

my understanding was that it was based on an early fork of the
kernel with the user-mode stuff removed. is that incorrect?
