Hi, 

I am using window98 and someone told me about linix and plan9. I have been 
certified by MCSA so know quite a lot about OS so it should not be problem for 
me. Which is better: linix or plan9? 

I did not get early the london conference data but will be learning more
about this.

i'm sorry, i'm not normally one to either pick on stuff like this nor
feed the trolls, but the number of faulty assumptions densely packed
into this mail is truely impressive. being a certified MCSA doesn't
mean you know much about any operating system, even MS ones. knowing
much about one OS (especially MS ones) does not translate into
knowing much of anything about OSs generally (although it does help
to have an example of what your're talking about, true). knowing a
lot about operating systems generally does not translate into it
being easy to pick up a new OS.

and most importantly: there is no "better".

if you want web browsers, spreadsheets, mpeg playback, and/or lots
of dancing balogna, you almost certainly want linux. if you want a
lesson in clean design, a study in software or OS design, a sane
environment for systems work, or just a fresh way of doing things
(and the afforementioned stuff isn't so important), look to plan9.

speaking of, what conference data *is* there, really? beyond the
"show up, talk, eat, drink" type schedule posted earlier, do we
have anything resembling an agenda or list of topics?

i'm with dijkstra on this one:

Every time this theme comes up on the list, it is so obvious that it is a (not so)
clever joke by someone who knows well enough about flamebates occasionally
going on here between MS, LT and BL.

What is so amusing is the many answers every such joke receives.

I can't imagine anything that would frustrate a troll more than to
have his flamebate response be civil, polite, entertaining and
informative.  Great stuff.  Plan 9 could be the glue that brings peace
to the computing world.  Running drawterm on XP to log into a plan 9
network that has OpenBSD, FreeBSD, Linux, Solaris mounted.

By the way, is there a 9fs for XP?

i've been wanting to install plan9 on my thinkpad which has an ati
mobility video card.

last time i tried, i realized that plan9 doesn't support ati cards for
graphics.

has there been any progress in getting ati support in plan9?

you don't mention which thinkpad you have, so i'll assume your vga is
a radeon 7500.  philippe anel has drivers for it here:

also check the 9fans archives -- there were discussions about
modifications to the drivers a few months ago.

sorry for the lack of detail.  i have a thinkpad a30p with a Radeon
Mobility M6 LY.  i'm not sure if the drivers you mention will work with
it.  i'll give them a try.

i'm curious to know why  these drivers aren't included in the official
distribution.

drawterm.

run it on a different port and have that script on the cpu
post the fd to /srv after authenticating. then mount it.
