I tried installing Plan 9 on my system with the Diamond Viper 550
today, following the instructions given at:
http://users.bigpond.net.au/nwaples/install.txt

During installation I got the rio GUI, and everything installed fine.
After I rebooted to run the installed system, I got the following
error:

   rio: [handwriting intelligible] display:initdisplay: /dev/draw/new:
no framebuffer
init: rc exit status: rio 10: display open

When I try to start rio manually (riostart) I get the following notice
twice:

   $wsys not defined

Does anyone know what might be causing this?

Did you copy the vgadb file from the floopy disk to the hard drive?
And are you using a Plan 9 kernel with the Viper fixes in it?

Yes. I eventually re-installed Plan 9 and it worked that time around.
Probably some stupid mistake on my part.

I eventually re-installed Plan 9 and it worked. I probably made some stupid
mistake that I didn't catch during the first installation. Easy to do when
your 1-year-old daughter is trying to re-organize your den during the
installation.... :)

Sorry for the trouble.
