[9fans] Update account

[9fans] Update account

[Erik Jahn]

Hello i've tried to 'pull' newest sources but i have problem with
authentication (message:authentication failed). I created yesterday account
'erikj2' but how could i find out if is it ready ? Or could it be some other
problem ? I checked with netstat if i am really connected - it's ok, dns, gateway
all works well.

create another one and try again.

i have two :) 'cos i forgot the password of the first one, but
then i realised it was obviously the password i use on plan 9.

9fs sources -- damn impressive.

yup, works like charm.

then again, dan cross did all the hard work.  i'm just drawterm'd from paris to
his net
and 9fs'd to the labs.

There is a variable delay from the time you create your account until it
is actually available. When you do the pull and it asks you for the
account and password and it works you then know things are well. What I
usually advise folks is do it the day before they decide on an install.

The question I have is how long before an account goes stale?...

They are ready as soon as you add them.  You might learn more
if you turn factotum debugging on:

1) create a window
2) in it 'echo debug > /mnt/factotum/ctl' then 'cat /dev/kprint'
3) try to pull and then send me the output from factotum.
4) finish with 'echo debug > /mnt/factotum/ctl' to turn debugging off

I can say definitely that pull accounts are -not- ready as soon as you add
them. I've had to wait at least an hour in every case and sometime a day
or so. I'm not the only one who has noticed this behavior.
