Another question from this novice Plan 9 user. I'm trying to increase
the screen resolution to 1280x1024 from the present 1024x768x32. I've
examined /lib/vgadb thoroughly but frankly do not entirely understand
it. I've tried one or two options in /n/9fat/plan9.ini, including
monitor=vs1782, vgasize=1280x1024x<various bit settings>. One 9fan in
the archive mentioned simply putting in monitor=t23 in his case. Mine
seems closest to vs1782 but results in "vs1782@1280x1024x<whatever> not
in vgadb". Have also tried monitor=sxga with similar results.

Video card and monitor are capable of supporting 1280x1024x32 or more.
Details are:

Card: RIVA (Nvidia?) TNT2 64
Monitor: Viewsonic VE710s. H freq. 30-82, V 50-85 (very similar to the
characteristics of the vs1782 in vgadb.

John

with that and an nvidia card of some sort i use

vgasize=1280x1024x16
monitor=multisync135

in plan9.ini without having had to change anything else that i can remember.

Thanks for that Charles. After a little manual adjustment of the
monitor, that worked well. It raises another question, one that I've
asked before as a newcomer to Plan 9. How did you arrive at that answer?
What is there logically to relate a Viewsonic VE710s with the
multisync135 entry in vgadb, when the more obvious one (to me at least)
seemed to be the vs1782? I guess I'm just not sufficiently technically
oriented?

i've now tried that one too and monitor=vs1782 also worked for me.

Odd that. I tried vs1782 again in case I'd missed something but, no, it
doesn't work at anything greater than 1024x768x32. Perhaps to do with
different video card. Anyway, multisync135 is working OK.
