has anyone tried 9atom on vmware player recently?
on a win7 installation with vmware player 3.1.3 (latest), install from
CD hangs after accepting the monitor type response. attached is the
screenshot of the CD debug boot option.

skip, is there an option to present the host with an ide controller?
if so, does that work?

i noticed the scsi h/a too. the only option for disk is ide; i've
deleted all the nonessential devices.
fyi, i tried it on another older config; it boots on a vm that's
running on an xp based vmware workstation 4; so it probably has
something to do with that controller.
nitpicking: on CD boot i get the following on the console (messes up
rio) until i kill fs or cat /dev/kprint in a window:
upas/fs: wridxfile: '/mail/box/glenda/mbox.idx' no creates
gnot Dec 13 04:02:44 glenda.130: wridxfile:
'/mail/box/glenda/mbox.idx' no creates

can you rebuild a kernel with DEBUG set to ~0 in sdata.c and use that in
your iso image? i seem to recall that the ide driver has had a long-running
disagreement with vmware.

well, that's annoying. iso9660 should return "file system read only".
i've added "no creates" to the list of messages to recognize as normal
and pushed contrib/nupas (but not 9atom).
