I am looking for a Research Associate (Postdoc) working with me on the
EPSRC-funded project "Coalgebras, Modal Logic, Stone Duality". (Two
years, starting date as soon as possible)

>From the point of view of computer science, the project is about
logics for transition systems (coalgbras). From the mathematical point
of view, the project will explore the dualities arising from extending
basic, Stone-type dualities via an algebra-coalgebra duality. This
draws on results and concepts from modal logic, domain theory,
universal algebra and category theory. A background in one (or more)
of the above areas is desirable.

The official announcement and application form is available at (Ref
R2246)

   http://www.le.ac.uk/personnel/jobs/a&r.html

The applications should be submitted no later than 20 September 2005.

If you have any questions please contact me via email.

Best wishes,

Alexander

Recently, I advertised a postdoc position on the EPSRC-funded project
"Coalgebras, Modal Logic, Stone Duality".

Additionally, there is now a departmentally funded PhD studentship
(GTA) available. The GTA scheme involves some teaching and runs for 4
years. Unfortunately, the position is probably only of interest to
students with an EU nationality: the university seems to be unwilling to
waive the fees for non-EU nationals.

The topic of the PhD will be in the area of "Coalgebras, Modal Logic,
Stone Duality". Repeating from my previous mail:

The applications should be submitted no later than 18 October 2005.

If you have any questions please contact me via email.

Best wishes,

PhD studentship in algebraic topology
Swansea University Mathematics Department, College of Science

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in algebraic topology,
funded by the EPSRC, to work on "Moduli spaces from a topological
point of view" with Dr Jeffrey Giansiracusa at Swansea University,
within the Mathematics Department.  The studentship is funded for
three years and is available for a start date of 1 October 2012 (or
earlier if desired).  The studentship will cover tuition fees at the
Home/EU rate plus a stipend of approximately £13,590 per annum based
on the standard EPSRC rate.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Moduli spaces are important and beautiful geometric objects that touch
many areas of pure mathematics.  This project aims to study moduli
spaces arising in low dimensional topology and algebraic geometry
through the powerful lens of homotopy theory.  The student will work
closely with Dr. Giansiracusa to study compactifications,
decompositions into elementary pieces, and applications to topological
quantum field theory, low-dimensional topology, and tropical geometry,
and algebraic geometry over the 'field with one element'.  The project
will begin in the area of topology, but could easily head towards
algebraic geometry, category theory or in other directions depending
on interests.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should either already have graduated with or expect to
graduate by the end of 2011/12 academic year with a 1st class or upper
2nd class honours degree in mathematics, or an equivalent
qualification from abroad.

Please note, there is no residency/nationality restriction, but the
funding will only cover fees at the home/EU rate.

TO APPLY

The deadline for receipt of applications is 22nd May at noon.

Applicants should send a CV and a covering letter with names of
referees directly to the Department by email or post.  The address is:

Dr Jeffrey Giansiracusa
Department of Mathematics
Swansea University
Singleton Park
Swansea

The Department of Computer Science of the University of Leicester offers
a PhD studentship (GTA). The GTA scheme involves some teaching and runs
for 4 years. Unfortunately, the university waives the fees only for EU
nationals.

The PhD student will join Nick Bezhanishvili and myself in our current
work on "Coalgebras, Modal Logic, and Stone Duality". Colleagues in
Leicester working on related topics include Roy Crole, Reiko Heckel,
Vincent Schmitt, Emilio Tuosto, and Fer-Jan de Vries. Moreover, there
will be close collaboration with the logic groups at the University of
Amsterdam (in particular with the VICI-project directed by Yde Venema at
ILLC) and at the University of Oxford (Hilary Priestley, Alexandru Baltag).

For more information on the topic see

The official announcement and application form is available at (Ref

The applications should be submitted no later than 20 October 2006.

If you have any questions please send me an email.

Best wishes,

Alexander
