Is it possible to display embedded CID images? Frequently I will get
screenshots from MS Windows and the email will display something like:
[cid:657420512@11102010-2DC7]
Can these be displayed somehow?
TIA!

Both gnus-article-html and mm-shr as `mm-text-html-renderer' will
display CID in HTML.

Mine is set to gnus-article-html and all I see is cid elements as
above. Is there some accompanying voodoo needed?

You have switched from the text-plain-part to the html-part?

With stock Gnus I used to see such a select : but not in NoGnus - I just
see a load of cid elements above . Another config issue?

I have
(setq gnus-buttonized-mime-types (quote ("multipart/alternative"))) in
.gnus. This might make the difference.

My value is ("multipart/signed" "multipart/alternative").
I even set my discourage alternatives to nil.
So I guess it should be working.
But I still see no buttons to select different renderings.

Over the years I've seen people refer to buttonized this and buttonized
that.
But I'm not sure if I've ever seen such a button...

Perhaps you're preferring the text/plain version to the text/html
version?

Ah, I do that. Perhaps that's why I've never seen a button?

Maybe set gnus-blocked-images to something other than "."? I haven't tried it yet, but a quick look at gnus-html.el suggests it.

According to the doc string it's an image matching url regexp so I would
assume that matches nothing and thus blocks nothing since "." is the
default.
However, the manual says the default is to block everything. Should ^.*
not be the default to block everything?
So what to enable everything? I tried nil with no success.

Neither mm-shr or gnus-article-html will display anything like that, so
you are getting your messages rendered by something else.

Yes. But cid: urls are never blocked, so the setting has no effect on
cid: urls.

Maybe worth a mention in the article.
Then getting back to the original Q : what is the correct way to show CID
items? As I said in the snipped bit, all I see is (like the OP)
something like
[cid:657420512@11102010-2DC7]
I wont even pretend to even know wha CID items are : I just know, like
the OP, I cant see them ;)

I don't know what they are, either. My guess would be that you're
looking at a text/plain article that just has the string
"[cid:657420512@11102010-2DC7]" in the text somewhere.
`C-d' to decompose the message.

They are links to text blocks in some cases, images in others.
In fact, bringing up my sample email today it works.
http://www.myupload.org/viewer.php?file=35rn5x7w2i09c5a2k0aq.png
I need to figure out what changes were made to my settings to pinpoint
what triggered it working but I did tale a new git pull today.

What's the value of mm-text-html-renderer? If you're seeing CIDs odds are it's not set to gnus-article-html. The logic to set it initially, if you don't set it explicitly, depends on which rendering application it finds. If it finds w3m, it sets to gnus-article-html. Now that I've installed w3m on my system that is the value I'm getting (I was getting "links" before) and I no longer see the CID items, but the images.
