This doesn't seem to fix the problem. The and-expression seems to be
the problem in the patch you commited. If I write
(unless (equal nntp-open-connection-function
'nntp-open-network-stream)
(unless wait-for
[...]
instead, the bug you described above seems to be fixed (I hope) and
the delay is gone, too. Uhh ... Lisp is a bit too compilicated for
me, sorry if the code above has bugs again.
