Here's a couple of no-logos for consideration. I like the first the
best personally.

I'd vote for the first too. It's a nice logo, good work :)

So do I. It would be fun to see a gnu with a no mask (as in japanese no
theater), though.

Maybe there could be some text in the style of Naomi Kleins book «No
Logo»?

They're all nice. How do they look if you use the current splash
colours ("#ff0000" "#ffff00") on the gnu?

Well, the other thing I thought of would be doing a fade-out. IE,...
err... Tried doing it, but it doesn't really work with xpms. Looks
good on my screen in gimp though ;-)

Hmmm... Well the red in the first is too close, so we'd probably have
to change the circle to something else. Orange was just too chaotic,
so a medium brown maybe?

Can't you write to a PNG instead of an XPM?

Steinar> Can't you write to a PNG instead of an XPM?

Yeah, but I didn't know if we'd like that or not. Traditionally all
the graphics files have been xpm since they're more supported by the
"older" versions of [X]Emacs. Anyway, I actually submitted another
logo that hasn't made it by the moderators queue yet (too large and
all; the pop account holders probably hate me) which I like the best
so far and works just fine as an XPM.

The advantage of XPM is being able to change colors easily by
the program. However, when there are many colors, e.g., a
lifelike gnu, it is not sure.

BTW, how about metallic gnu? Here's an example:

ftp://ftp.jpl.org/pub/tmp/xemacs-gold.xpm

I made it using xv and netpbm, but it took a long time.

I like the new overlay logo best. But how about putting the Gnu also
in the white parts?

I think that the "no" sign looks better with thicker lines. I
couldn't get myself to like the skinny red lines...

Yep. The outline is the missing "no Gnus" but the shadow is full...

Well, I think it probably doesn't matter. The reason I picked that
direction is that it intersected more with the Gnu. The other way
mean that most of the slash would not touch the beast itself, and I
wanted it to in order to get the front/back effect of it.

I can reverse it for you if you want to see it the other way, however.

I liked the out-lined gnu with the shadow the best though.

Yes. It's simple, subtle, nothing fancy, and gets the point across
without being "in your face". Everything a logo should be.

By far, the best yet!

Did you ever realize how much text fits in eighty columns? If you now consider
that a signature usually consists of up to four lines, this gives you enough
space to spread a tremendous amount of information with your messages. So seize
this opportunity and don't waste your signature with bullshit nobody will read.

And that's a bad thing ;-)
