Has anyone tweaked nnimap to work with (the qmail, Maildir-based)
Courier imap? I found discussion, but no resolution from several
months ago.

Thanks.

I think if you use Courier 0.32 or later it should work. Doesn't it?

Spurred by recent Maildir discussions, I'm just getting back to
this. I'm running courier-imap 0.33 on FreeBSD 3.4. The server works
fine with other imap-enabled apps. Client is Gnus 5.8.2, Xemacs version 21.1;
May 1999. Redhat 6.2.

I have no imap-related code in my .gnus. I simply open the server from
the server menu and access the folders from the Group
buffer. Everything is working as expected until I try to select an
article in the summary buffer and am always told that the article does
not exist or has been cancelled. There is no lisp error.

I'd appreciate direction as to how to debug this. I'd really like to
get it going... Most of my mail is in nnml folders, but I need to keep
business-related mail in an imap environment so that I can also
sometimes access it from a windows box in order to read all of the
.doc and .xls files (they seem to stay one jump ahead of staroffice in
terms of real compatability.)

Thanks for any help.

Gnus 5.8.2 is quite old -- maybe something has been fixed in 5.8.7?

Could you please try Gnus 5.8.4 or later? There is a patch for
servers that support IMAP4rev1 but not IMAP4, it would fix a problem
just like you described.

Thanks to you and Kai. 5.8.7 did the trick. Gnus though, doesn't play
optimally in terms of other clients - I thought of the recent
discussion re state and client side storage of meta data in the
Maildir backend context..

If after a remote imap folder is visited by Gnus, another client moves
mesages into that folder, Gnus treats those messages as old rather
than displaying them as other imap clients would...those clients have
no notion of a tick mark.

Good.

Well, aren't the articles marked as read by the client that moved
them? Are they marked as unread in other imap clients?

Gnus doesn't display old articles at all, by default. And agreed, this
is unlike other mail/news readers. You can use C-u SPC to view all
articles in a group.

The tick mark is part of the IMAP protocol (it's called "flagged"
though) so if other clients doesn't support it, it's probably a
missing feature in those clients.
