When sending a cancel message, does Gnus quote the rest of the
message, or does it (he/she?) strip out the body of the message?

It's got to be "do they", it's called "Gnu_s_", after all.

I browsed the source (hey does there exist a _better_ documentation?
;-) and found the following wonderful variable message-cancel-message,
this implicating(?) that the body is stripped away.

Uhh.. hmm this should maybe be mentioned in the docs together with
cancel? On the other hand it belongs to the message-docs(?) but thats
not the first place I look in when I wonder how to cancel.. maybe a
pointer from cancel in the gnus-docs to cancel stuff in the
message-docs (if it exists?)

Why not check in the (relevant) control group yourself?

Anyway, it says something like `I am cancelling my own message.' in the
body.

Talking about cancelling: Certain newsgroups are self-moderated, but
how can you get Gnus to put in the relevant headers when trying to
cancel an article you've posted in one of those? It's a bit annoying to
get an email back saying you can't post your cancel message to a group,
just because message-setup-hook is not called for cancel messages...

Well -- the body isn't stripped; the body of the cancel message is
`message-cancel-message'.

Yes, the whole canceling thing needs a rethink. It's way too hard to
cancel articles now if you post from different machines, for instance,
or when you cancel from different servers, or in a situation like this.

In addition, cancelling needs to be coordinated with posting styles,
when that goes back in (to get the valid sender address to cancel
for).

What I need. is something like canceling on the server I am eading,
couldn't this mainly be associated to the virtual server??

Then comes the special case whe the sever doesn't accept post,
couldn't gnus say someing like 'uh oh you cant post here do you want
me to post on another server, or skip' nd hen when the good user has
shown gnus the light of server to post to, gnus might ask ithe user
wants this server to be used for future postings, and associates it
with the group/server/topic?

I know there are topic-'local' variables, but haven't checked for/used
group/server variables?
