For what it's worth, I've used Gnus as my primary email client for
about 3 years now.  In that period, I've used nnfolder, nnml, and
nnimap extensively, all without any loss of mail.  If you are used to
the Gnus way (treat mail and news in a uniform manner), there's no
reason to not move to 5.10.x.
