FWIK, latest released Gnus is quite stable or simply stable. In my
case, I used to use a daily CVS checkout version of Gnus w/o problems.

So I think you can safely switch to the latest stable version. In my
case, I recommend people to migrate to it even for a massive daily use.

Did you read the Changelog ? All has been painfully summed there by
