I downloaded a list archive for use with nndoc and was missing 5% of
the articles.  Turns out that an early version of the mailer was
using a tab between the sender and the timestamp.  This was later
changed to two spaces, then one space.  However, the mbox format
apparently doesn't care, it just wants whitespace:
 
 http://www.umanitoba.ca/cgi-bin/man.cgi?section=5&topic=mbox

Once changed, gnus found all the articles.

Maybe this should be addressed in rmail.el, also? (no pun intended)
