Hmmm, it would be hard, because it's done asynchronously. But after
further investigation, it seems that the problem is elsewhere: my sysadmin
filters out some sites known to send ads images, and the picons site seems to
be one of them :-( It's replaced by a random local image and thus the proxy
services are not required.
What gave me the impression that the retreival was hanging is that
Andy's progress gauge never goes away...
