I can't tell from the docs; they suggest that "followup" applies only
to followup articles. Does that mean articles with a matching article
in the "in-reply-to" header?

Anyway, it looks like you can nail children using "followup", and you
can kinda sorta nail all descendents using "thread" (which keys on the
"references" header), but I don't see a straightforward way to nail
certain articles, their children, and their grandchildren.

Thanks for the replies so far; I'm still looking for more suggestions
if anyone has some.

The docs seem to suggest that "thread" does that, implying that
"followup" does something else. I too am too lazy to read the source
tonight.
