If you refer to "spam-plit-group" it is a bad example of
not-quite-copy-and-paste from my .emacs. The value of the variable is
(... (to "bojohan" "inbox") "spam"))

I tried to forward the message but got this error:
mail-header-parse-address: Unknown symbol: ö
The message has the following from header (i've scrambled the
address):
From: Rickard Bergström <XXX@YYY>
I had this splitting problem before with one message from my father. I
think there might be a pattern here...

Well, if you save the message to a file and attach that, we can do
something.
I also need your settings - specifically the spam-* variables you may
have set, but your whole gnus.el if possible.
You can also try this:
M-x toggle-debug-on-error
open the message
hit 't' in the message buffer to show all the headers
M-: (spam-split)
If you get an error there, definitely forward it as well. It is very
likely to be an issue with the character set, but I get mail from
various character sets without any issues.
Thanks
Ted
