Hello,
  I am wondering which type of mailbox backend is the
fast for Gnus(Linux). nnmaildir seems to be slow, &
I need to deal with a quite a large amount of email,
usually 2000+.
  I am using No gnus 0.3
  Thank you.

nnmaildir is sufficiently fast for me. nnml should be even faster.

| Note, that if you want to split mail into your groups with an
| external tool such as procmail, you'd better stick with maildirs.

But it's perfectly possible to use procmail and nnml! Here's what I
do.  In .gnus I have:

    (setq gnus-secondary-select-methods
          '(
            (nnml "")))

    (setq mail-sources
           '(
              (directory :path "~/.procmail/"
                         :suffix ".prcml")
            ))

and in .procmailrc I have rules like:

    :0:
    * ^List-Id: Astronominyheter
    astro-info.prcml

So e-mail from the Astronominyheter list gets put into
.procmail/astro-info.prcml by procmail, from where Gnus picks it up
and puts it in the group nnml:astro-info. Couldn't be easier!

Hi,
  I wonder what does the ".prcml" suffix means? is it nnml format?

Thank you.

Cheers,
