This behavior is explicitly defined in `common/travis/build.sh` (pay attention to the `-s` option) and used in CI:
```sh
/hostrepo/xbps-src -j$(nproc) -s -H "$HOME"/hostdir $arch $test pkg "$pkg"
```

New review comment by Vaelatern on void-packages repository
https://github.com/void-linux/void-packages/pull/41399#discussion_r1067279990
Comment:
I don't want to carry around `srcpkgs/hg-git/patches/fix-egrep-test-errors.patch` as a patch. It just changes `egrep` to `grep -E` I guess to avoid the GNU "egrep is depreciated" warning?
Could be an alias better, or a `sed` patch in a `pre` step.
Or merged upstream! That'd be nice. This problem is not unique to void, so we should not be carrying this patch.

Yes common practice is to prefix patches with an Upstream: and Source: header, e.g.
```diff
Upstream: yes/no
Source: <link to upstream commit/patch/request>
---
--- a/foo
+++ b/foo
...
```
If it has not been submitted upstream, best to explain why, or submit it yourself. I assume this patch would be acceptable upstream.

I also don't understand we should be needing this patch. egrep was explicitly patched in https://github.com/void-linux/void-packages/commit/ef5ffe4d696b31041c272be92e912fb454c075ac to avoid these kinds of issues. But the egrep in my masterdir doesn't seem to be affected by this patch.

Why does this need to be a separate PR? `hg-git` is the only package that pulls in `python3-dulwich`. Presumably you would be testing the upgraded software all at once, rather than in all combinations.

The tests work by comparing stdout with the expected result. Since the warnings get posted in stdout, it no longer matches the expected value. Last time I [updated](https://github.com/void-linux/void-packages/commit/e851fe63829a092a79798cc4f355398e73d0fc5f) it, a patch was needed for the tests due to mismatched git version from upstream. It got [fixed upstream](https://foss.heptapod.net/mercurial/hg-git/-/commit/5277b791c8e79568832785560cac491d72044534) in this release when their git version caught up to ours. So I expect this to will be fixed when they move to grep-3.8.
