I am interested in posting new Japanese Plan 9 documents and
translations of current Plan 9 papers to the Plan 9 Wiki. Should we
start another page for each new language that we suppport? Or should
we incorporate the translated texts into the current wiki page with
links to the translated works? Ideas anyone?

A new "root" for each language would be the best. I think,
www.emacswiki.org is a good example.

Thanks, I think I use your suggestion.

Btw, I have volunteers for translating the wiki documents into
Japanese and Chinese languages. Is anyone interested in translating
Plan 9 documents to any other languages?

We had someone translating the wiki into Japanese
some years ago now, but he got tired of it, and when
the wiki got switched over to the 9P2000 wikifs I tossed
the Japanese pages, which by then were presumably
out of date.

What's to say that's not going to happen again?
Maintaining multiple consistent copies of anything is hard.
If time is going to be spent on the wiki, why not make the
English documents better? (It would be different if the
rest of the system and its man pages and papers were already
available in many languages.)

We need babelfish-fs. I'm half joking, but maybe there is a solution
there. Any changes get passed through babelfish to generate a 1st
order approximation of the translation and the page is marked as being
out-of-date (and perhaps the approximations can be marked in a
particular way). Helpful native speakers can correct the approximated
translations and mark the page as being up-to-date.

i thought it might make plan 9 more amusing to learn to use.

I think it will succeed because I am not the only one
committed to the idea, and better documents exist outside the wiki.

Maintaining multiple consistent copies might never
happen, but that is not to say the sharing of ideas and
understanding will be diminished.

Some of the best Plan 9 notes and HOWTOs are written in
Japanese (i.e., pages at http.aichi-u.ac.jp,
http://plan9.wakhok.ac.jp, and specifically
http://plan9.ipng.wakhok.ac.jp/doc/hp/install.html)

I would like to see the various works around the globe
consolidated in one place. I think consolidating the
documents to one site will give us a better understanding of the job
at hand. For instance, I was writing an improved Plan 9 installation
guide, but recently I've found that someone has completed the work.
Now, I can focus my efforts on extending the work rather than starting
from scratch. And if I wanted to translate the document into English,
then I can use the graphic images from the Japanese document rather
than to create my own.
