so did i. but since pccard controllers in laptops are just
pci devices too, my point was that perhaps the big plug-in
pci cards looked, at a driver level, no different than the
pci controllers on laptops. that is, perhaps devpccard
would just work. i know, i know, i shouldn't be hoping
for sanity in the world of pc hardware.

unfortunately, it turns out that this particular one is a
plx pci9052, which is proprietary and likely doesn't just work
with devpccard. (pb says the linux guys are all complaining
that they can't get it to work.)

My apologies, it seems you're right -- I must have read the wrong batch of
reports. How difficult do you reckon it would be to write a driver for Plan9?

Best regards,

Peter Bosch.

> What is the problem encountered with the PCI9052?

i don't know any details. pb looked at the linux mailing
lists/news groups and saw that the pccard/pcmcia guys
were all complaining about not being able to get the
pci9052 to work. if the linux army can't get it working,
we're more wary of trying ourselves.

I noticed that plan9 has wireless support for wavelan card and Intersil
prism based PCMCIA card. Is it possible for linksys pccard (intersil) with
a PCI adapter work this fashion? I have a desktop box running plan9. I
like to try it with wireless card so I don't have to run some wire..

depends on whether we recognize the pci adapter.
as long as we recognize the pci adapter correctly,
the wavelan driver should handle that card fine.
that was the card i tested with.

i don't know whether pci adapters look the same,
at the driver level, as pccard controllers in laptops or not.

pb?
