(Compact Flash) 2/ How stable is it? 3/ Is it limited at all to what the x86 version can do? Or can it do exactly what you can do on a normal PC? Now, I have a Thinkpad R31, and I tried booting the Plan9 CD to start it but it gives me a kernel panic.. I can't exactly describe it just yet but it wouldn't even boot, it prompts me about the settings like resolution and such and I go with the default-- and then I get the panic. I hope that someone could help me with these questions and this quarrel, which I will go into detail soon. Thanks. _________________________________________________________________ Protect your PC - get McAfee.com VirusScan Online http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963 ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 12+ messages in thread

It does'nt have driver to your card. R31 have a radeon mobility isn't it? you need to patch your kernel with radeon support, search 9fans archives for radeon support. i hope that help you. PS: i haven't ipaq, but you should be able to run most of applications. > Here're questions about the iPAQ version.. > 1/ Does it support the CF Sleeve? (Compact Flash) > Not that I know. Some of us used it with a pcmcia backpack. For what it is worth: I succeeded to lift linux (I think: actually, bootloader) code to make the already existing (single) pcmcia sleeve code work (more or less, yes, this is vague) with a double-slot pcmcia sleeve. Maybe it is possible to do something similar for the CF Sleeve. W.r.t. stability: for me it was (is) stable, but suspend/resume does not work. Others had more success in this respect; could be related to different versions of bootloader being used, I don't recall seeing that this was explored 'to the bottom'. A somewhat related question: Is the support for pcmcia disks only in the ipaq (bitsy) kernel, or also in the pc one? (I tried over a year ago, and then it worked on ipaq and not on a laptop, and I'm wondering if that was due to erroneous config on my side, or simply because it is (was?) not supported) (it was a toshiba MK5002MPL) Axel. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 12+ messages in thread

I have it working now. took me (quite) some time to find working numbers for port and irq. I tried guessing them using info from aux/pcmcia, /dev/irqalloc and /dev/ioalloc, I suppose I'm not smart at this. Is there a better way? I choose the first default configuration from aux/pcmcia -- naive question alert :-) just curious: Are there in general reasons to favor one over the other? (I attach the output of aux/pcmcia at the end) Somehow this worked more automatic on the bitsy, I recall. Is life easier on the bitsy wrt automatic choosing irq's? Or has more effort (default irq's) been put in for the bitsy? (I know/think more effort has been put in there wrt the possibility of sending a configure command to - what was it? - pcm?ctl ?) Rephrased/Related: just curious: are there intrincic differences between the bitsy and the pc that make things easier in one place and harder in another? For sake of completeness, for my laptop the following (inserted at the right place in sdata.c) made it work. I really have no idea how generally useful the irq is. if(channel == -1) { isa.port = 0x200; /* toshiba tecra 8000 */ isa.irq = 10; /* toshiba tecra 8000 */ channel = pcmspecial("MK5002MPL", &isa); } Axel. Our ata drivers would probably drive ST506 disks if any could be found. From a fortune file: Backward compatibility means never being able to say 'that was a mistake'. If you build for compatibility with a donkey cart, you don't get a Concorde. So my first question is, anyone already doing this? The second question is that I'm getting what I think are ramfs crashes. They are quite reproducible, if I open in acme / or /bin I usually get a series of "Bseek: unknown state" messages and then the fs no longer works. Anyone saw the same thing? thanks PS: I saw the console putchar disabled, enabled it, and it seems to work fine. Ditto for suspend (which resets the thing by default). Bug or feature? ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 12+ messages in thread
