for me the one thing that is sorely lacking in utop is a vi editing mode
like readline has. once you've started to use the shell with nice text
editing support it feels like a handicap to not have it.

readline is licensed under the GPL (not LGPL), so that might have unwanted
consequences for the license of ocaml ...

similar problem but if we were to implement readline support, we may later
on build on it with tab-completion, etc.
