Where are the X-Faces?

Where are the X-Faces?

Hey all

Since my last CVS update I don't see X-Faces any more. I'm running
XEmacs 21.4.6 under MS-Windows (native build) by the way. I see from the
Changelog that there were some changes in the X-Face area, it seems that
those broke it for Windows users.

The current solution is using some not so standard Unix tool to handle
faces. These tools are not "naturally" available under Windows.

Any chance too do a switch that if those tools aren't found, it's done
in the old way? (It perfectly worked)

And for Linux users (Debian Potato) the X-Faces are still there but
are shown without transparency.

Yeah; that should be possible.  I'll rewrite the X-Face functions for
XEmacs a tad.

That's a feature.  X-Faces are meant to be black-on-white.  If you
want some other color scheme, then you should alter `gnus-x-face'.

That would be great if they were black-on-white, but lately they're
black-on-dirty-snow.

That's odd.

I'm running under XEmacs 21.4.3 under RedHat Linux 7.1.  In recent
Oort releases, the x-faces have disappeared for me, as well.  Which
"not so standard Unix tool" do I need to install to re-enable my
ability to view the x-faces under Gnus?

I'm running under XEmacs 21.4.3 under RedHat Linux 7.1.  In recent
Oort releases, the x-faces have disappeared for me, as well.  Which
"not so standard Unix tool" do I need to install to re-enable my
ability to view the x-faces under Gnus?

Are they still disappeared?  Oort has gone back to using the built-in
X-Face support in XEmacs...

For me, they are here (in classic black & white).

Do you use a special code to alternate randomly X-Faces ?

The X-Face you see up there is the sleeve of the album playing in my
X-Now-Playing header.  :-)

Well, I'm using the extreme latest Oort, and for me the x-faces are
still gone.  Now, I get this error message every time I view a message
which contains an x-face:

  Searching for program: no file or directory: uncompface

I went out and found the compface library and installed it.  Now, the
message went away.

So ... all's well that ends well.

However, something must be different than before, because I never needed
compface in the past.

i had to install package 'compface' on my debian gnu/linux.
