Indeedy.

I've always considered MS to be unholy purveyors of all that is evil,
but now it's personal. I'm taking a contract out on Bill.

Although it looks like it's some swede that's actually registered the
domains. Could somebody pay that cretin a friendly visit? Perhaps
bring some baseball bats? I mean, for playing baseball, of course.

I'd be interested to see what this "new site" turns out to be.

www.gnus.{com,net} is the same machine as kinch.netrus.se. "netrus"
is swedish for "net intoxication". Or perhaps they're just doslixec
or something.

Anyway:

Why would you want to take out Mr. Perry?

Hm. Could I complain to Internic and get them to revoke gnus.com and
gnus.net? That is, if we wanted to? (Perhaps we don't.) What would
it take?

Yeah. I was actually referring to "new site" in terms of the website,
since presumeably the stock IIS page will someday be replaced with
native content.

Probably legal action if they didn't want to give them up. The
InterNIC doesn't settle these type of disputes.

The NSI Domain Name Dispute Policy Statement explains more about this:
http://rs.internic.net/domain-info/internic-domain-6.html

Perhaps it would be better to give Mr. Magnus Brannstrom a phone call
and inquire about his intentions for the two domains?

At least a trademark on the name `Gnus', it appears.

The highlights are:

      - Network Solutions does not act as arbiter of disputes.

* Section 5(b): Before requesting Network Solutions to take
action pursuant to the Policy, trademark owners are required to
notify domain name registrants that their registration and use
of the domain name violates the legal rights of the trademark
owner.

* Section 7: In those instances when either the domain name
registrant or the trademark owner file suit against the other
regarding the registration and use of the domain name prior to
the domain name being placed on <93>Hold,<94> Network Solutions will
not place the domain name on <93>Hold<94> and will deposit control of
the domain name into the registry of the court.

* Section 7(c): Network Solutions will abide by all court
orders without being named as a party to a law suit.

That's worth a try.

No. You would have to have a legal right to the name, which basically
means a trademark, I believe. In that case, though, the InterNIC
doesn't actually get involved except as a neutral third pary.

Also note that trademark laws are different in different
countries. Lars lives in Norway, and www.gnus.com is in Sweden, and
InterNIC is in the USA, so God only knows which laws apply.

FWIW, this is one of the issues the interim Policy Oversight Committee
(iPOC) claims it will address in it's policy to revamp the Internet's
DNS.

Actually, if Lars could get a ruling in his favour here in Norway, the
Swedish goverment would enforce it. Any ruling, in any court, in one
of the Nordic countries (or "Scandinavia", if you will), is valid in
all Nordic countries.
