You can also try nntp//rss:
http://www.methodize.org/nntprss/
It basically runs an nntp server on your own machine, so you'll have an
extra foreign server, but it doesn't seem to slow gnus startup time --
especially compared to the time taken to fetch my email.

Yeah, do you have any .gnus config file example?

Interesting---sounds like the exact same issue. I've ended up for now
just subscribing to the RSS feed directly with G-R in Gnus. I'd resisted
this at first because Gnus is, for me, painfully slow with RSS feeds at
times. However, I've gotten over it, and am using the wait time
productively to brew coffee ... :)

You can try asking about this on gmane.discuss. I recently had a similar
issue (http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.discuss/16223) and the reply was
that I had to contact the feed authors to make sure they used
a different <link> tag in their feeds.

I do have a more general question about the functionality of gwene. Not
sure if this is the right place for the question, but ...

There's an author at our weekly paper here I'd like to follow. When
I try to input his feed into gwene, I get this result:

A feed with this internal ID (http://www.thestranger.com) is already
subscribed as gwene.com.thestranger.[...]

This is because someone has already entered the rss for one of the other
authors at the same paper.

Any way for me to get the feed for my author into gwene?

Thank you!
steven

Simple G R then enter the feed, and bam, there it is. It just worked. I had no idea; thanks! This newsgroup is gold.

Gwene seems like it's been down for a couple of days. Anyone else had
any trouble reaching it? One of those "is-it-down.com" websites told me

One way is to access the RSS to nntp gateway on news.gwene.org.

So I enjoy reading USENET and some emails using emacs/gnus on my Macbook
Air. This may be a dumb question, but I also enjoy reading RSS feeds
using a GUI app I have. I was wondering/hoping there was a way to
subscribe and read RSS feeds using emacs/gnus? Or some other tool in
emacs?

Thanks in advance.

I just started using rss2email. I'm pretty happy with it so far. It
has the advantage that I can have the stories forwarded to my mobile
phone. I can ssh from my phone to gnus as well, but the email can be
read on the phone even offline.

It does seem to be sending me a lot of duplicate stories; sometimes I
get the same article a few times during the day. That could be a
problem with those feeds, but I haven't looked very closely to see if
it is something about r2e yet.
